Finding a hot Niche idea is the key to any internet marketing campaign. It’s imperative to find a niche that is passionate, and has money to spend. After all the key to marketing is finding a “starving” crowd (with disposable income), finding out what they need and then giving it to them.
Niche research is the first step, and the most important, in this process. If you fail to find a niche that fits these criterion you will likely have a less than stellar campaign. I’m often asked how I find ideas for a niche. People often complain that all the good niches are taken, and there are no more ideas out there. Rubbish. Ideas abound, you just have to know what to look for.
When looking for a niche you need to look for anything that people are interested in. If people are interested in it, have products, magazines, books, forums, yahoo groups, Google groups and the like directed to it, it’s probably worth at least looking at. You may have to drill down, and find a smaller portion of the niche to actually target, but there are ideas everywhere. Once you get the hang of it you will find ideas everywhere you look, and you will realize there will never be a shortage of niches, because the world changes everyday!!!
Here are 5 places you can go to find some hot niche ideas. You will need to take these general ideas and then drill down to find a good targeted market. The key is to get started!!!
1. Your Local Library: Get to know your librarian, she will know the trends of what people are taking out, and she will also know upcoming new releases.
2. Non-fiction best seller list: Check at the local bookstore or at an online bookstore. See what the top books are talking about. If people are buying books about it you know there is interest and money to spend.
3. I Village: This is a huge online community filled with women talking about what they love. Look around and you will see ideas everywhere.
4. Bella Online: Another huge website filled with information women want to know. This site is nicely categorized, you can drill down some hot niche ideas here.
5. Magazine Rack: Check out the magazines at the local newstand. If there’s money to put out a periodical there’s a market. You can also look through the magazine and see who is advertising, how large their ads are, and how often they advertise to get ideas of what’s hot within the industry of your magazine.
With these resources you should be able to come up with 10 general hot niche ideas. This is a great place to start. Once you have your general ideas, you will need to drill down and find a more targeted idea. You will also have to do more research to see if it’s a viable niche, but getting started is key and generating ideas is the key to getting started.
