Attitude and Perspective Can Make or Break Business

Anyone who starts a home based business needs to be prepared to think outside the box, especially with today’s technology. Competition and a rough economy has made it necessary distinguish your business from others in order to gain the edge in profitability. So many businesses are unable to make it due to the fact that they just can’t market themselves properly or simply can’t deliver the kind of service needed to retain customers.

When it comes to small home based businesses, every little detail counts. The image of you and your company must be projected in such a way that there are no negatives. Show weakness, disorganization or a bad attitude and you are finished. There is a narrow margin of error and the only way to avoid any pitfalls is to make sure you are polished and have all your ducks in a row.

What ultimately determines how people, clients or colleagues look at you, is how you approach them and how you interact with them. If you have read my previous articles you will see the familiar quote, “If you fail to prepare, you are preparing to fail”. It is so true! Developing a positive attitude affects everything in your life and is your key to be able to reach your goals. Perspective also affects your entire life even though you may not know it. Preparation is actually another way of saying you must have the proper perspective to see many different facets of how you appeal to the public. More importantly, you must know how the public looks at you.

Clients, business associates and anyone for that matter, judge you, listen to what you have to say or purchase your product based on what you say and how you say it. If your attitude isn’t where it needs to be, you’re in big trouble.

Perspective is essential. To make sure you are in the right frame of mind, you should attain certain qualities that will help you on your path to success. Some of these qualities may be a part of your personality. However, perspective is the key to how you react to life in general and has a tremendous bearing on your attitude. Thus, “attitude is all about perspective”. It is always worth making the effort to learn or improve upon skills that you need to use to achieve “perspective”.

Treat others, as if you wish to be treated. You will get farther with a kind word. Even if you are on the phone, smile! People can see your smile through the phone! Usually your energy, or what causes the positive quality, can be transmitted over the phone line. No kidding! When you act kindly to others, you will see that others will act kindly to you. Show that you are a positive person and in kind, positive things will be happening right back to you. It’s all in the attitude and perspective.

The opposite is also true. Bad attitudes can be catchy. When you are miserable and you project this attitude, you actually encourage others to be miserable. It is the same with bad behavior. When you act badly to others, you are encouraging others to act badly to you. If you have a bad attitude, the negativity will show in everything you do.

Perspective dictates that when you are working with others who are in bad mood or if they are angry, they will have you walking on egg-shells. The atmosphere will be tense and will not be conducive to a productive environment. Others will feed of that bad atmosphere or attitude and that will set the tone for the situation. Naturally, a positive outcome will not result from these types of conditions. At this point, success will go flying out the window.

On the other hand, if you are empathetic, take the time to care about how other people feel or know how to listen to what people have to say, you project an inviting environment that will encourage better relations and more productive outcomes.

If people get a bad vibe from you, they probably won’t want to be around you or hear what you have to say. Say the wrong things and people won’t respect you or trust you. And we all know that if you lose trust, you’re finished. People won’t like you or your company.
If you can’t convey a message in the right way, you’re not going to be successful. Messages are more effectively transmitted from a positive attitude.

Here are some tips:
-Avoid negativity and negative people. Avoid people who make you uneasy, make you feel hopeless and above all else avoid people in your life who are complainers. No one likes to be around complainers. They bring everyone down. Be positive no matter what.

-Start reading motivational books that have been written by successful authors.

-Always treat a customer as if they are the most important person you know.

-Look at customers as if you were in their shoes

If a situation gets the best of you and you are steamed for whatever reason or have a bad attitude, take a time out. Think about positive qualities and positive outcomes. This is where perspective comes in. Think about what makes you feel good or what makes you smile, usually when you are smiling or projecting a good positive attitude, you gain perspective and others will be encouraged to mirror that very same quality. People would rather smile than frown, that’s for sure!

Remember, people won’t go along with you if they can’t get along with you. The right attitude tells people that you are empathetic. It indicates that you are willing to listen, understand and help them. It also shows that you can be trustworthy and responsible.

Good Luck .
